The Laura Foltz Memorial Library provides resources (books and audio-visual media) to the church members and friends (both children and adults) to increase their understanding of Unitarian Universalism and its principles. The library collection also includes informational materials on religious history in general and other religions practiced in the world today. The Library Committee selects materials both for individual enlightenment and to support church programs.
The library maintains an ongoing used book sale which is located in the corner of the sanctuary and open before the service and during coffee time. Books in the sale include donated items not accepted for, as well as books culled from, the library collection. We also have a portable cart of books that are not part of the library collection (i.e. not accessioned and cataloged), but processed for check out. These books include best sellers and popular materials that do not fit our accession guidelines (or are duplicates).
The Archive component of the Library collects, organizes, and stores articles of church history for perpetuity.
On Wednesday mornings, those Library committee members who are able meet between 10 a.m. and 12 noon to order, accession, and process books and materials. One committee member writes a monthly column for the Dialog, suggesting titles new to the collection or older titles relevant to current events.
The Library is open for one-half hour before and after services every Sunday. Our cataloged items are currently in the process of being entered into a software program called “LibraryThing”, which enables church members and friends from their home computers to peruse the library's collection. Click here to do so.
